As part of the CleanSeaNet training plan for Member States, EMSA will hold a one day CleanSeaNet training course for duty officers in Lisbon in September 2008. Two representatives from each Coastal Member State, Croatia and Norway are invited to attend.

Training will be held at the EMSA Headquarters (Av Dom Joao II, lote 1.06.2.5, 1998-001 Lisbon) on the following dates:

  • 29 September 2008: Training for Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, and Italy.
  • 30 September 2008: Training for Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The course is targeted at duty officers with no previous knowledge or experience using the service. The aim of the course is to provide a basic introduction to CleanSeaNet to assist duty officers to start using the service quickly and competently. Participants would be duty officers who receive the alert report; duty officers who use the CSN web browser to view CSN images and/or officials who provide feedback on verification activities to EMSA.

The training course involves practical work on the CleanSeaNet web browser using guided exercises. The practical work will be supported by a short lecture giving an overview of the CSN service and an examination of real life CSN case studies where satellite images were used for spill detection and possible polluter identification.
